Transgender Woman wins Election in Tennessee
Marisa Richmond has become Tennessee’s first openly transgender person to win an election in the history of the state.
Richmond won over 99% of the vote to become the Davidson County Democratic Committeewoman to represent District 23. Â She is also a candidate to be a delegate to the Democratic National Convention this summer in Denver.
Richmond says, “I want to see Tennessee be part of an even larger GLBT, and especially transgender, caucus in 2008 in Denver.â€Â
Richmond also serves on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Equality Project and is President of the Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition. She serves on the Board of Directors of the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC) as the Congressional Lobbying Coordinator, and on the Board of Advisors of the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).
